PRODUCTS AND PRINTS

This page is concerned with prints and other products made from images I’ve created for you, as a private client. If you’re looking to purchase any of the prints and gifts associated with my fine-art projects, check out my Fine Art Sales page.

Keep in mind that I don’t ask or encourage customers to commit to a specific print order, when booking a shoot or hiring me for digital editing work. I recommend saving this decision until after you’ve seen and approved the finished, edited, digital images - so you can better decide which images you want to have printed.

It’s also well worth taking a look at my print portfolio and image samples, which will give you a clear idea of what top-quality fine-art prints actually look like, up close and personal – and also, the different style and feel of various different print media formats, such as acrylic, metal and di-bond prints.

That said, it’s a good idea to set yourself a provisional prints budget, based on the options available to you. The details below should enable you to do that.

MY FINE-ART PRINT PROVIDER

I have chosen to partner with WHITEWALL.COM for all fine-art print orders on behalf of private clients. Whitewall provide gallery-quality fine-art prints, photobooks and calendars in a wide variety of formats and sizes. Whitewall has an international reputation amongst professional photographers, museums and art galleries as one of the finest photographic printing companies in the world. The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) has honoured Whitewall’s printing services in its prestigious World Awards no less than four times, most recently naming the company “Best Photo Lab ” in 2020 and 2021.

I have to admit that a luxury, fine-art printing company like Whitewall can seem quite intimidating, if your budget is modest! You may feel, for example, that you could only afford to have one of your photos printed and framed! But this isn’t necessarily so…. I’d like to draw your attention to some relatively affordable options which would allow you to have multiple images printed, in a decent size and to compelling effect – but without breaking the bank.

BUDGET OPTION 1: MULTIPRINTS

A multiprint, as I call it, is a special layout I create for you in Photoshop, using several images from your photoshoot. I charge £15 for this (my standard editing fee). When you’re happy with the design, I can upload the finished layout to Whitewall in a high-resolution, print-ready format – and order you a single, stunning wall-art print, at a fraction of the cost of having each photo printed separately. As they used to say on TV, back in the day, here are some I made earlier

BUDGET OPTIONS 2 & 3: PHOTOBOOKS & CALENDARS

I’m afraid I have no photos of these items available to display here – but you can check out what the look like at whitewall.com.

A photobook requires a minimum of 28 final images, so as a first step, you’ll need to make sure you request this, when you book your shoot. It will then be possible to have all of these photographs printed and bound together in photobook form, at roughly the same price you’d pay for a single, framed wall-art print, of similar size.

On the other hand, a calendar only requires a set of 12 images – one for each month – so this makes them cheaper still.

BUDGET OPTIONS 4: MAKE A PRINT/EDIT DEPOSIT!

If your budget is limited, you may find you can’t easily afford to make the most of the images I’ve captured during a photoshoot – either in terms of selecting all those you’d like me to edit for you in Photoshop and deliver to you as finished digital files, or indeed, having some of those special images printed for you – whether to display at home, or to present as gifts to your family and friends.

This can be frustrating even at the best of times – and for most people, the present time is far from ideal, financially speaking! With these difficulties in mind, therefore, I have a simple solution, which I call a “print/edit deposit. It costs just £50, and it works like this:

  • When your photo shoot is completed and I have edited your chosen set of images, I add £50 to your invoice.

  • Half of this fee – £25 – will be duly donated to your chosen set of charities.

In return for this payment, I commit to doing the following:

  • Maintain backup copies of all your original images and edited files, indefinitely. I normally delete these files after three months.

  • Maintain your online gallery of original and edited images, indefinitely. I normally delete online galleries after three months, to save costs.

At any time in the future, you may come back to me and ask me to do either or both of the following (to the value of £50 or more):

  • Edit more images from the original set, and deliver the finished versions you as digital files

  • Order more prints, photobooks or any other products I’m able to provide.

You can either ask me to deduct £50 from my fee for these services – or you may choose to retain this deposit for future use.

MY PRINT-ORDERING PROCESS

WhiteWall’s website offers customers a bewildering variety of options, including five different types of print media as well as photo books and calendars. All of these come in a variety of sizes and formats – and prices vary considerably, depending on the size, format and media you choose. You’re welcome to visit the site and check out all these options for yourself, but I would advise allowing me to walk you through it, either in person (using my laptop) or remotely (sharing a screen online).

This gives us a chance to make use of WhiteWall’s award-winning “RoomView” feature, for print-ordering. If you take a photo of a room in your house, we can upload that to Whitewall and then see exactly what your chosen photo will look like, when printed and displayed on your wall, in various sizes. This is a stunningly effective way to visualise exactly what you’re going to get, when you order a wall-art print.

Once you have decided what you would like me to order, I will send you an invoice and then place the order on your behalf, as soon as I receive payment.

MY PRINT-PRICING POLICY

My pricing model for print orders is very simple. It usually includes just three elements:

  1. The price WhiteWall charges me, for the products you wish to order

  2. The price WhiteWall charges me, for shipping your order to you.

  3. A mark-up of 20% – half of which will be donated to your chosen charities.

If you choose to order a multiprint, I add a small editing fee of £15 for creating and editing your layout.

You may wonder why you can’t avoid my mark-up and order prints from WhiteWall directly, using the digital images I deliver to you. This is because these files are not suitable for high-resolution or large-format printing, but are optimised for use online and on-screen. Print-ready files provide considerable added value and I charge for them accordingly (see the section on this option, below) – but for most customers, ordering prints through me will give you the best overall value for money.

A ROUGH GUIDE TO PRINT BUDGETING

With a myriad of options for printing in different formats and sizes, on different media, the following guidelines can only be very approximate – but they should give you a useful sense of what you should be able to order, at these price points.

Up to £40

You could order either of these:

  • A stunning, personalised 2023 calendar, up to A3 size

  • A small (15x10cm) ultraHD Photo Print Under Acrylic Glass

£50 to £90…

Your options might include:

  • Plus A 60 x 40 cm UltraHD Photo Print under Acrylic Glass

Over £1,000…

If money is no object, You may want to take a look at WhiteWall’s Masterprint service – a unique, large-format printing technology which creates seamless prints up to 500 x 240 cm. Keep in mind, however, you need to have a very big wall to display a print that’s up to five metres wide!

I’m told that prices for Masterprints, start at about £3,000 and my run a good deal higher than that, depending on framing and other features you may require. If you’re interested let me know!

PRINT-READY FILES

But what if you don’t want to order prints through me, but rather, do it yourself? The digital images I deliver to you, as standard, will not be suitable for this, since they are intended for digital display on computers, tablets and other devices. They are optimised, in particular, for posting online – whether on personal or business websites or social media platforms – but this means they are much lower in resolution than the original images captured in my camera, and then edited in Photoshop.

Customers have sometimes sometimes asked me if I can supply them with high-resolution, print-ready digital images – which they will then be able to print themselves, either using their own home printers, or via a commercial printing service. For example, if you’ve hired me for a commercial shoot, you might want to use your images to produce posters, brochures or other printed marketing materials.

To make this possible, I can prepare and deliver high-resolution print-ready versions of your images, at a cost of £55 per digital file (minimum order, 5 images). However, if you’re only intending to produce prints for personal use, I would advise against this option – as I believe you’ll get much better quality, customer service and value for money by ordering your prints through me. And you’ll be contributing to the charities I support, which is really the whole point of half-decent photography!
