THE LOCAL HEROES GALLERY

This gallery is home to a series of exhibitions featuring creative projects in support of one or more of my Local Heroes group of charities. The first of these projects, “Spring Walks for Dorothy House” is introduced below.

SPRING WALKS FOR DOROTHY HOUSE

Dorothy House Hospice Care gives specialised care and support both to people with life limiting illnesses and to their carers and families. For some forty-five years, it as has served a substantial local community which includes Bath and North East Somerset and neighbouring areas of Somerset and Wiltshire. Acclaimed for its pioneering approach in palliative and end of life care, Dorothy House focusses above all on quality of life, giving patients the compassionate care and support they need to live well and to die peacefully when the time comes.

My “Spring Walks” photography project was undertaken under the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, which ruled out my original idea of featuring portraits of active supporters of Dorothy House, in and around the hospice itself. Instead, I decided to work on a series of local landscape and wildlife photos, all of which were taken within two or three miles walk from Dorothy House – which has the special distinction of being situated in the heart of some of the most beautiful countryside in England. I hope you will enjoy the images shown in the gallery below.
