MY NEW HOME… AND STUDIO
I RECENTLY RELOCATED my photography studio from a small terraced house in Bradford-on-Avon to a wonderfully spacious, family home… just three miles away! This very local move has vastly increased the sheer amount of space I now have available for my studio work, both indoors and out. I have all the practical advantages of lovely, high ceilings and plenty of natural light – but more importantly, for me, stunningly beautiful gardens and spectacular views over the Avon valley, to the South East of Bath.
I remember visiting Murhill House as a child, when it belonged to my grandparents, Hugo and Susan. It was a magical place to me then, and in many ways, it still is. It’s a Grade II listed building, with unique but humble origins as a row cottages occupied by workers in the nearby quarry; one of a number of local sources of the famously beautiful, honey-coloured Bath stone, from which the house is built.
I FEEL LIKE I HAVE THE BEST OF ALL POSSIBLE WORLDS HERE!
I have a well-equipped studio in a beautiful, peaceful and secluded setting, which clients just love to visit. I also have an abundance of beautiful, natural backdrops for stunning outdoor portraiture, literally, on my doorstep! These super-convenient, backyard-options include ancient woodland, gorgeously landscaped Victorian gardens and wide-open, spectacular landscape views over the valley below… And just a little further afield, there are any number of stunning Wiltshire and Somerset beauty-spots, all within each reach.
At the same time, this haven of natural beauty and tranquillity is surprisingly well-connected. The timelessly elegant city of Bath is just a few minutes drive away, and I can easily travel across whole swathes of the West of England and South Wales, including cities like Bristol, Swindon, Gloucester, Salisbury, Weymouth and Cardiff.

Recently, I had good reason to be very glad to be at home and not out on the road – because for a couple of days, both Murhill House and the surrounding landscape were magically transformed by the heaviest snowfall in several years. This gave me a rare and welcome opportunity to venture out on foot, into the snow, and capture some very special winter landscape photos!
